 | | Polyhydroxy Acids (PHA) Information Polyhydroxy Acids, Lactobionic acid, Galactose, Gluconic acid Exuviance, by NeoStrata Company, medical studies clinically prove all claims. Alpha hydroxy is a single strand molecule allowing for quick penetration into the skin.
Poly hydroxy is a multiple strand molecule due to the larger size skin penetration is slower, gentler absorption rate, reducing any side effects such as stinging or irritation. See all Polyhydroxy Acids products. See all Polyhydroxy Acids make up.
Polyhydroxy acids (PHA), the next generation of AHAs in skin care, are natural and nontoxic. In the polyhydroxy acids category are lactobionic acid, galactose and gluconic acid. A special type of AHA (alpha hydroxy acid) known to- Modulate keratinization, cell development in the top layer of skin.
- Normalize stratum corneum (outermost layer of skin involving the last stage of cell development) exfoliation and thickness. Aging slows the exfoliation process down allowing cells to remain on the skin causing a lack luster appearance.
- Distinct advantage when used on sensitive skin due to a larger molecular size allowing gentle topical penetration, decreasing sensitivity and discomfort.
- Sensitive skin, such as rosacea, atopic dermatitis, eczema, seborrhea and in hyperkeratosis (abnormal cell turn over) associated with psoriasis, ichthyosis, and keratosis pilaris are skin conditions benefiting from this advantage.
Lactobionic acid, derived from lactose in cow’s milk. A gluconolactone (an acid) chemically connected to galactose (a sugar).
- Is a poly (many) strand comprised of one molecule of galactose attached to one molecule of gluconic acid.
- A biological and natural ingredient because gluconic acid and galactose occur naturally in the skin.
- Out performs other humectants such as glycerol, sorbitol and glycolic acid due to it’s eight hydroxyl groups that bind more water.
- A hygroscopic (a substance that can take up water from the atmosphere) compound, which binds atmospheric water to the extent that a natural gel matrix, containing approximately 14% water, forms upon evaporation at room temperature.
- Lactobionic acid’s poly hydroxy acid structure offers antioxidant properties to block oxygen free-radical induced tissue damage, exfoliating benefits of an alpha hydroxy acid, forms a gel film which binds to the skin providing soothing and healing benefits, increases hydration, plumping, anti aging benefits especially targeted for sensitive skin.
Galactose
- Is a chemically neutral, endogenous hexose sugar that is utilized in glycosaminoglycan (GAG'S) synthesis, collagen synthesis, and cell migration, which may enhance wound healing.
- A component of lactobionic acid.
- Galactose converted into glucose helps wound healing and protein synthesis.
Gluconic acid
- Found naturally occurring in cells, is a polyhydroxy AHA (PHA) that is known to provide beneficial effects to skin.
- Also known as gluconolactone in some skin care products.
- A component of lactobionic acid.
