Skin Types for Sun Damage Where's your "Waldo"? There are 6 separate skin categories for sun tolerance and sun induced skin cancer. You will recognize yourself in one. TYPE 1 HIGH RISK - Fair skin and hair and freckles that always burn easily and never tan.

TYPE 2 HIGH RISK - Fair skin that always burns easily and tans minimally.
- Often slightly darker eye and hair color.
- Shows signs of aging quickly.
- Should wear a sun block everyday, rain or shine.
TYPE 3 MODERATE RISK- fair skin that burns minimally but tans gradually and uniformly.
TYPE 4 MODERATE RISK- Burns minimally, always tans well.
- Usually has brown eyes and hair.
- Shows signs of aging at a slower rate.
- Examples; Italian, Portuguese, Spanish decent.
TYPE 5 LOW RISK- Rarely burns, tans profusely.
- Usually has dark brown eyes and brown or black hair.
- Shows signs of aging very slowly.
- Examples; American Indian, Eastern Indian, light skin tone African American.
TYPE 6 LOW RISK - Never burns, deeply pigmented skin
