Oily skin has an over production of oil (sebum) from the sebaceous glands in the follicle, overtime this can enlarge the pores. Hot humid climates, stress, hormones, and skin care products containing hidden oil ingredients aggravate this condition. Very oily skin can lead to over cleansing, often up to three times daily, less oily skin will feel slick midday and may feel unclean. Compensation for this condition compels people to use strong degreasing products that often strip the moisture from the skin inducing an undesirable tight and later oily feeling. A theory among some medical specialists is over cleansing facilitates more oil production and is counterproductive. The goal is to help regulate and not stimulate the oil glands while still keeping the moisture content in the skin. Loss of moisture causes the tight feeling, fine surface dehydration facial lines, and should be avoided.
